Top Thai Police Commander Shot and Killed by Wife, Who Later Gets Bail

National —

The 59-year-old commander of the Royal Thai Police Office, Pol. Lt. Gen. Panya Pinsuk, was shot dead by his wife at a house in Bangkok’s Thawi Watthana district on Sunday afternoon, February 19th.

The officer was found deceased lying beside a silver Toyota sedan parked in front of his house, wearing only blue trousers. His death was reported around 1.45 PM. Police responding to the incident said Lt. Gen. Panya sustained two gunshot wounds: one in his chest and the other in his collarbone.

Police searched the fallen commander’s house and discovered a .38 revolver on a cupboard and a Glock pistol in one of the rooms. Also present at the house was the victim’s wife, 67-year-old Mrs. Pornprapha Pinsuk. She was reportedly stunned by the incident and was taken to a police station for questioning.

Today, February 20th, the Superintendent of Thammasala Police Station revealed to the public that Mrs. Pornprapha confessed to shooting her husband to death, alleging she was propelled by stress and family problems.

The suspect was charged with intentional murder, however, she was granted bail after her daughter placed a 500,000-baht surety. The bail request was accepted because the suspect had a permanent address, had not attempted to flee, was not likely to tamper with the evidence, and had confessed to the charges, the police chief reasoned.

Thai media reported that the suspect would be taken care of by her daughter and would not return to her husband’s house because she could not cope with what had happened.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Panya was a well-respected commander among officers at the Royal Thai Police Office. He received national recognition for his involvement in several high-profile cases, including human trafficking and the black leopard hunting case involving construction mogul Premchai Karnasuta.
