Intoxicated Foreign Tourist Caught After Trying to Steal Jet-ski From Patong Beach

Patong –

An intoxicated foreign tourist was caught after he was trying to steal a jet-ski from Patong Beach, attacked a jet-ski caretaker, and tried to escape.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the incident after noon today (February 24th) on Patong Beach. They arrived at the beach to find the intoxicated foreign tourist who had already been caught by beach lifeguards.

Beach lifeguards told police that the foreign tourist was trying to steal a jet-ski. Beach lifeguards and the jet-ski caretaker saw him and they tried to stop him but the tourist attacked the jet-ski caretaker before swimming away from the beach.

Beach lifeguards and the jet-ski caretaker on jet-skis followed the tourist about one kilometer from the beach before catching him. They were afraid that the tourist might drown as he was intoxicated. He was taken back to the beach before being taken to the Patong Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

The identity of the tourist was not revealed by Patong Police although some reports from associated Thai media said the man was a middle eastern tourist and later claimed he had an anxiety attack which caused the incident.

Patong Police did not immediately say if the man would be charged.
