Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Saturday, March 4th, was admitted to Phramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok for overnight observation of his swollen right hand.
General Prayut returned from an inspection and merit-making trip to Ayutthaya province on Friday, March 3rd, with noticeable swelling in his hand. His personal doctor visited his residence in the First Infantry Regiment in Bangkok to examine the hand and decided to admit him to a hospital for a closer examination.
Initial reports stated that the prime minister was placed on antibiotics after the doctors discovered that his hand was inflamed. Additional reports indicated that the inflammation in his hand appears to be a symptom commonly associated with pseudogout, which is characterized by the accumulation of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD).
The symptoms of pseudogout are sudden and intense joint pain, swollen joint that is warm and tender to touch, and red skin involving the affected joint.
Prayut has to spend two to three days at a hospital, according to the latest reports. A plaster cast was put on his swollen hand.
Prayut has posted photos from the hospital and appears to be in high spirits.
