First our previous story:

Pub bouncers in Bangkok have been fired following a viral video recording that appeared to show the bouncers handcuffing and slapping a foreign male customer in the face over a trivial misunderstanding.

Now for Our Update:

American tourist Rodric W Carkhuff, 34, travelled again to The Club Khaosan located on Bangkok’s well-known walking street of Khao San Road to receive a reparation of 50,000 baht from the pub operators.

Carkhuff was an English-language teacher for two years in Thailand before returning to the country as tourist. He was handcuffed and slapped in the face thrice by The Club Khaosan’s bouncers after he did not pay for a bottled water he had drunk. The tourist, however, stated that he thought the water was complimentary after he ordered a drink.

Two pub guards, who handcuffed and slapped the American tourist, also took him to a seperate room and threatened him with a long knife at one point during the ordeal, said Carkhuff. The incident was secretly recorded by a Thai passerby, who posted it on social media where it quickly went viral.

As a result, two guards, identified as Mr. Thongchai, 30, and Mr. Kritsada, 40, were charged with assault, carrying weapons, and holding a person against their will. The case was settled at the Central Investigation Bureau. Carkhuff said despite his ordeal, the incident did not affect his good feelings towards Thailand and Thai people.

In total, six bouncers and a manager were fired by the club after the incident.
