Thai Whistleblower Goes After Suspended Minister

National —

Politician turned whistleblower Chuvit Kamolvisit is furiously attacking Bhumjaithai Party ministers, especially suspended Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, for many alleged irregularities in the massive Orange Line electric train project.

Saksayam, who is also a member of the Bhumjaithai Party that primarily pushed for marijuana legalization, had been suspended from performing ministerial duties after the Constitutional Court accepted a petition against him regarding his alleged concealment of shares in a construction company he had granted a government construction contract to.

The petition was filed by the opposition parties that joined hands with Chuvit.

Last Friday, the whistleblower alleged that he found many irregularities in the bidding for the Orange Line electric train project overseen by Saksayam. For instance, the minister allegedly had the employee of a construction company as a proxy to tender bids for contracts with the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads.

Chutwit stated he had solid evidence to support his claim.

He went on to say that Saksaym awarded over 82 construction contracts worth 1.2 billion baht to a company, in which he held stakes, adding the nominee who held shares for him also donated more than 7 million baht to his political party Bhumjaithai.

The suspended minister, so far, has denied all allegations and is waiting for the court’s ruling.
