Two foreigners have been reported missing two days after they rented a kayak on Coconut Island in Mueang Phuket.
The Phuket City Police Chief Colonel Pratueang Ponmana told the Phuket Express that a hotel manager and staffer on the Coconut Island, east of Phuket in the Koh Kaew sub-district, filed a report to the Phuket City Police.
They told police that on Friday (March 10th) two male foreign tourists rented a kayak at the hotel, whose name was withheld at police request pending further investigation. The two foreign men of unknown nationality wrote the name of the renter as ‘Bey’ with the hotel room number of 2318.
However, hotel management later found out that there is no room number 2318 in the hotel. It is unclear why this was not immediately caught as a discrepancy by hotel staff managing the kayak rentals.
At 5:00 P.M. the two foreigners did not return. On Saturday morning(March 11th) the hotel searched nearby but there was no sign of them. The hotel is worried they might be in danger.
Colonel Pratueang told the Phuket Express that police have been checking CCTV footage nearby to see if the two foreigners might have left the kayak somewhere else instead of returning to the hotel, or even possibly stolen the kayak.
The issue is still under investigation as of press time.
