Raid on Illegal Bar on Bangla Road in Patong Leads to Rescue of Six Underage Sex Workers

Patong –

An illegal bar on Bangla Road in Patong was raided uncovering underage prostitutes with six victims rescued. Two suspects were arrested who claim the real bar owner is a foreigner.

Last night (March 15th) a team from the Department of Provincial Administration raided a bar in Soi Sea Dragon on the Bangla Road.

The Department of Provincial Administration official told the Phuket Express the raid came after officials received complaints from the Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R) that the bar was allegedly operating a prostitution service with underage sex workers for foreign customers.

Officials found a woman only identified as Ms. Taksakorn or Nam who presented herself as a bar manager and Ms. Watcharakorn or Yuki who is allegedly a broker providing prostitutes. The bar was also being operated without permission. They were taken to the Patong Police Station to face charges of operating an entertainment venue without a permit or license and human trafficking.

Officials told the Phuket Express that they have rescued six underage female victims in a nearby hotel. The youngest victim is only 15 years old. They were taken into the National Referral Mechanism (NRM).

Further investigation into the bar’s actual owner is ongoing. The name of the bar was withheld to protect the identity of the underage trafficked victims.
