Australian Resort Boss Murdered While at Work in Krabi

Krabi-

A 57-year-old Australian resort boss was killed by the husband of one of his own employees who was apparently upset about her pay at a resort in Krabi.

The Ao Nang Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified by the Krabi Hospital that a foreign man had been pronounced dead on April 2nd, 2023. Multiple stab and slash wounds were found on his body, said Ao Nang Police.

The victim was identified as a 57-year-old Australian man. (The Phuket Express is withholding his name for family privacy.) He is the husband of the Thai owner of the resort and helps co-manage and run the venue in the Khao Thong sub-district, Mueang Krabi district, said Ao Nang Police.

Employees at the resort told the Ao Nang Police that the suspect’s wife, who was not identified by police, is a member of staff at the resort. Her husband was negotiating his wife’s salary with the victim before the incident. A verbal argument over her pay rate reportedly escalated, leading to the incident.

The suspect, Mr. Peerachart Songsri, 24, from Songkhla, later turned himself in to the Ao Nang Police. The Ao Nang Police told the Phuket Express that Peerachart is facing charges of murder. Peerachart has admitted to the charge but the exact circumstances and motive are still not completely clear, Ao Nang Police told Thai media.

The Australian man’s wife said her husband’s body will be taken to Phuket for a funeral and asked for privacy during this sensitive time. The name of the resort was also withheld by police pending further investigation and at the request for privacy by the family of the victim.
