Thai Woman Arrested at Phuket Airport with Cocaine Worth More Than 10 Million Baht

Phuket –

A woman was arrested at Phuket International Airport with more than two kilograms of cocaine worth more than ten million baht, says Thai Customs.

The head of Thai Customs at Phuket International Airport Ms. Sukanya Wettayanukun told the Phuket Express that on Wednesday (April 5th) they received a tip-off from a concerned citizen that illegal drugs would be smuggled into Thailand via a specific airline.

Customs officers searched a targeted piece of luggage which belonged to a 27-year-old Thai woman. Officers found a bag of cocaine weighing 2.35 kilograms which has a street value worth more than 10 million baht.

The woman was taken to Sakoo Police Station for legal action. Her full name, however, was withheld by police to the media and it was not immediately clear what her plea was.

Customs officers also did not release the name of the country that the woman had been traveling from to enter Thailand, only stating that the suspect is a Thai national.

This is not the first time cocaine has been found recently at the Phuket International Airport. In January, as we reported here, a woman from Uzbekistand was found with over 2 kilograms of cocaine.

And in June of 2022, a young man from South Africa was found at the Phuket International Airport with 1.49 kilograms of cocaine in his abdomen in a story that went viral due to the pictures, seen here.
