Pattaya —

A group of Chinese overstayers were arrested by Pattaya police at a rented luxury house in Pattaya yesterday, April 11th. The officers said the group conducted a loan shark business in Thailand and lent out money to customers in China.

Chonburi Police, Tourist Police, and Thai immigration raided a two-storey house in the M Mountain Village in Pattaya at 6:30 PM yesterday, following an investigation that some Chinese nationals were allegedly operating an illegal loan shark business on the property.

During a house search, police discovered four men and one woman, namely Fu Yin-ter (36), Hu Xiaowei (41), Lin Yongpin (29), Ji Liu-ne (29), and Tang Wei (35).

Police said the individuals rented a house in Pattaya to run an illegal loan business that handed out money to customers in China. The group made profits by charging an exorbitant repayment rate, according to police.

The officers confiscated from the suspects 8 laptops, 12 mobile phones, more than 50 SIM cards, and a list of several debtors, all of whom were Chinese.

Upon checking the suspects’ visas, police also found that four of them had been overstaying in the country. The one legal suspect would still be prosecuted for working without a work permit.

All five individuals were then detained at the Nongprue Police Station under charges of overstaying and working without work permits.Police said they would examine evidence found at the suspects’ house to file additional charges against the suspects.
