One Person Dead, 42 Injured after Bus Crash in Mahasarakham, Bus Driver Flees

One person has died while 42 people have sustained injuries after a passenger bus crashed in Mahasarakham, in the northeast of Thailand.

The Ratcharoen Police were notified of the accident after midnight (April 24th) in the Payak Poompisai district. Emergency responders reported that they arrived at the scene to find a damaged bus just off the road.

One person was found dead inside the bus which was identified by rescue teams as Ms. Umaphon Kampapan, 34, from Yasothorn. Forty-two people had also sustained various injuries and thirty-eight of them were taken to various hospitals.

Passengers told local media that the bus was coming from Ubon Ratchathani and was heading to Bangkok. It was raining when the bus driver lost control before colliding with a power pole.

Additionally, the unidentified bus driver was not found at the scene and appeared to have fled the accident.

The Ratcharoen Police are continuing their investigation to find the driver for further legal action.
