Bhumjaithai Party Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Thai Anti-Cannabis Crusader

Thailand –

The Bhumjaithai Party has filed a defamation lawsuit against anti-cannabis campaigner Chuwit Kamolvisit after he set up the Center of Anti-Cannabis (CAC) I’m Bangkok.

Our previous story:

Chuwit said Anutin Charnvirakul, the leader of the Bhumjai Thai Party, has changed his stance on cannabis from the past as he once promised a liberal cannabis policy but now only said the plant was for medical purposes only.

Now for our update:

On Tuesday (May 9th) Lawyer Kamon Srisawat, a representative of the Bhumjaithai Party, filed a lawsuit at the Criminal Court in Bangkok against Chuwit over alleged defamation by advertising and offending the Constitution Act of Thai Elections.

Mr. Kamon told the press “Mr. Chuwit is trying to hurt the Bhumjaithai Party voting by persuading people in negative ways and giving false information and fear mongering around cannabis. These actions have defamed the party. We don’t want any damage costs to be paid but we want legal action to be taken against him as a matter of principle. The Thai courts have accepted the lawsuit which will be heard on June 26th, 2023.”

When asked about how the Bhumjaithai Party has been specifically effected from the anti-cannabis campaigner Chuwit, Mr. Kamon said he cannot give any more details for now due to the pressing legal action and risk of damaging the case.
