The Department of Land Transport Phuket Office has continued to warn of what they call an online and illegal driving license scam where there are still more than 200 Facebook pages and accounts scamming people.
The Department of Land Transport (DLT) Spokesman Mr. Saksom Akkarapan revealed to the press that legal actions have been taken against 164 Facebook pages for online driving license scams. However, there are still more than 270 of these Facebook pages and accounts in operation.
The post states that a legal driving license service is being offered with no need to go to the Land Transport Office by yourself, take an exam, test, or any qualification requirements.
The fee is from 1,000 baht to 6,000 baht. When victims transferred money to the scammers, the suspects disappeared or sometimes the victim got fake driving license cards.
Victims could even face legal action for using fake documents and could be imprisoned from six months to five years and fined from 10,000 baht to 100,000 baht.
Meanwhile, these scammers shall also face legal actions for making fake documents.
As for the people who manage the Facebook pages for online driving license scams they shall face legal action for offending the Thailand Computer Crimes Act.
They shall face legal actions such as imprisonment up to five years or fined up to 100,000 baht or both.
To get a legal driving license, people can book a space in the queue via the ‘DLT Smart Queue application.
