National —

Thailand saw 446,936 foreign tourists in the first week of May 2023, a slight decline due to the end of the long holiday in many regions, said the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports.

The office estimated that there would be at least 2 million tourists visiting the country in May mainly from ASEAN countries, East Asia, and Southeast Asia.

However, as of May 8th, there has been a slight decrease in the number of foreign tourists after the end of the long holiday in many regions. As a result, in the past week (May 1st-7th), there were 446,936 foreign tourists entering Thailand, which is slightly lower than the previous week’s forecast.

The top 5 countries in terms of the number of tourists were Malaysia, China, India, Laos, and South Korea. Among these countries, Laos was the only nation that showed an increase in the arrival number by 32.45%. Meanwhile, tourists from Malaysia, China, South Korea, and India decreased by 37.52%, 34.39%, 15.22%, and 8.32%, respectively.

The office said Thailand has welcomed 9,043,388 foreign tourists so far since January 1st 2023. The visitors helped pump as much as 373.304 billion baht into the economy.
