Russian Tourist Missing After Being Struck By a Wave While Taking a Selfie at Prom Thep Cape in Phuket

Three Russian tourists have been rescued while another is still missing after one of them was hit by a wave and washed out into the sea by waves while taking a selfie at the Prom Thep Cape in Rawai.

Emergency responders were notified of the incident on Friday (May 12th) at the end of the Prom Thep Cape. They and the Phuket Express arrived at the scene to find three foreign tourists floating in the sea. They were quickly rescued from the water.

They told emergency responders that they were Russians on holiday. They went into the sea to help their friend who was doing a selfie taking session before being hit by a wave and being washed out into the sea. Their friend disappeared into the ocean before the Russian tourists called out for locals for help and a search was launched.

The search was ongoing as of press time and the name of the Russian tourists were being withheld by relevant law enforcement as of press time.
