Suspect Arrested By Being Tracked from AirPods After Snatching a Purse from a Russian Tourist in Bangkok

A suspect was arrested after he snatched a bag from a female Russian tourist in Thonglor. Police tracked the thief down from the signal given by the tourist’s AirPods.

The Thonglor Police told TPN media that at 1:36 A.M. on Thursday (May 18th) an unidentified female Russian tourist filed a report to police. She told police that at 11:00 P.M. On Wednesday (May 17th), she was walking in Soi Sukhumvit 49/13 alone.

Suddenly, there was a male suspect who was driving a motorbike who quickly snatched her bag, causing her to fall down. She injured her knees and arm while the suspect sped away. Inside her bag was an iPhone 14 Pro Max, AirPods, and a wallet with 1,000-baht in cash.

The Thonglor Police tracked down the suspect by the GPS location of the victim’s AirPods. The location showed that the AirPods were in Soi Yoo Suk 30 in Samut Prakan. Police finally arrested the suspect identified only as Mr. Thanakrit, 41, on Thursday (May 18th) at 11:30 P.M.

Thanakrit admitted to police that after he snatched the tourist’s bag, he came back to his home in Samut Prakan.

Thanakrit is facing charges of theft and causing injury.
