On May 1st, 2024, Mr. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, publicly revealed the company’s plans at Microsoft Build: AI Day in Bangkok and announced the establishment of a new regional data center in Thailand.
According to the CEO of Microsoft, Thailand had prominent potential and opportunity to advance digital innovation and AI technologies. The establishment of the new regional data center in Thailand and investments in other structures such as cloud and AI were in the company’s plans to boost private and public Thai organizations with new changes.
The new data center plan would expand its Microsoft cloud service at a regional level with comprehensiveness and stability that meet the users’ demand at the organizational level. Furthermore, it would elevate Thailand’s complete data storage and security standards.
In Thailand, the first phase of Microsoft’s skills development program would develop the AI capabilities for 100,000 Thai individuals with the “Cloud First” program. The Thai government and Microsoft would work closely together on the skills development program for civil servants and developers working with government agencies
The Thai digital market grew exponentially on the GitHub platform owned by Microsoft which designed the program, especially for coding, coordinating, and creating innovation. It was reported that more than 900,000 Thai users were active on GitHub equivalent to a growth rate of 24% compared to the previous year.
Moreover, the Generative AI innovation from Microsoft was selected by many Thai organizations to boost their working performance and create innovation that aligned with the business needs.
According to Microsoft’s research, it was anticipated that AI could help increase Southeast Asian countries’ GDP by up to 1 trillion USD by 2030. As for Thailand’s GDP, it would increase by up to 117 billion USD.
