On May 10th, 2024, the Thai Sports Industry Development Subcommittee from Thailand Creative and Cultural Agency (THACCA) and famous Muay Thai coaches held an “Amazing Muay Thai Master Class in the UK 2024” event from May 3rd to the 5th in Reading City, England.
According to Thai national media, more than 300 individuals with Muay Thai equipment participated in the event including children as young as six years old and the oldest was 60. The participants were from 21 countries around the world.
Asst. Prof. Pimol Srivikorn, the Chairman of the Sports Industry Development Subcommittee, publicly revealed that the event was very amazing and satisfying as it was overwhelmed with praise and positive feedback.
In the event, participants were also taught about Thai culture and tradition. Muay Thai was not only Thailand’s soft power but also would be globally recognized, remarked Asst. Prof. Pimol.
Furthermore, the Office of the Muay Thai Sports Commission from the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) performed an inspection at Muay Thai gyms in England and awarded a certificate certifying the standards of each gym.
The certified gyms by SAT would build confidence in their trainees and could potentially generate more income and promote Muay Thai according to Thailand’s original style, said Asst. Prof. Pimol.
In Thailand, there were more than 400 certified Muay Thai gyms and the SAT sought to expand the number to 500 in the future to support foreigners who were interested in learning Muay Thai seriously, according to Asst. Prof. Pimol.
