UPDATE: Escaped Prisoner in Nakhon Si Thammarat Arrested in Indonesia

A prominent escaped prisoner in Nakhon Si Thammarat who made a daring escape last year and later engaged in a gun battle with police, escaping again, was reportedly arrested in Indonesia on Thursday (May 30th).

The Thai Department of Corrections has increased the amount of a reward from 100,000 baht to 1,000,000 baht for anyone who gives details that lead to the arrest of a prominent escaped prisoner in South Thailand.

A male suspect who helped a prominent prisoner in Nakhon Si Thammarat flee a hospital and evade police was arrested while the prisoner himself is still on the run.

The news had been first released by Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin on Thursday afternoon (May 30th). He stated that he had been informed by the Thai Minister of Justice that ‘Pang Nanod’ has been arrested in Indonesia. The Royal Thai Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affair are cooperating with Indonesia officials.

The Justice Minister, Tawee Sodsong, later revealed more details. Pang was arrested in Bali on Thursday morning (May 30th). He was “on vacation” in Bali when he argued with an Indonesian woman that eventually led to police being summoned and led to the arrest. Pang used a fake passport when he entered and stayed in Indonesia. He will be taken back to Thailand.

Officials are also investigating to see if there is any connection with the incident on May 14th, 2024. In this incident, Mueang Phatthalung police officers rescued three Indonesian men after being kidnapped for ransom by a group of Thai individuals in Mueang, Phatthalung, Minister Tawee noted.

The Phuket Express noted that Phatthalung is the hometown province of the prisoner, Pang Nanod. ‘Nanod’ is the name of a sub-district in Phatthalung City which become his alias after his nick name ‘Pang’.
