Bangkok—
On June 5th, 2024, Thai Government spokesperson Chai Watcharong announced that the lifestyle and travel guide magazine “Time Out” has ranked Bangkok, Thailand, as the 6th best city in the world for food.
Time Out highlighted that experiencing local cuisine is a key way to understand a city. The ranking was based on a survey of thousands of people who rated cities on food quality and price.
Bangkok earned its 6th place ranking as the “Street Food Capital” on the list of the world’s 20 best cities for food. The city’s street food is recognized as the third most affordable globally and offers a wide variety of options. Additionally, Bangkok boasts 34 Michelin Star restaurants, with 8 of these being included in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024.
According to Time Out, the most famous street food area in Bangkok, Chinatown, now faces competition from Banthat Thong Road, which has recently gained popularity among both locals and tourists for its diverse street food offerings.
The Government spokesperson also noted that Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin takes pride in Bangkok’s appeal and its ability to attract numerous tourists interested in Thai culture, cuisine, and the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
Furthermore, the Thai government is committed to promoting tourism in secondary cities, creating jobs, and enhancing the quality of life for local residents, the spokesperson added.
