Pathum Thani—
On June 5th, 2024, Thai national media reported an update on a gruesome murder case of an 18-year-old female student in Pathum Thani.
According to the police, the victim, publicly identified only as Ms. Waranya, was previously found by the roadside under the Udon Ratthaya Expressway in Mueang Pathum Thani. Her body, wrapped in a bed sheet, was found partially hidden in a bush, with her legs visible among garbage bags.
The suspect, publicly identified only Mr. Thanakorn, the 18-year-old boyfriend of the victim, was arrested shortly after at his residence while he was attempting to commit suicide by overdosing on pills. The suspect was reportedly now fine and in the care of doctors.
According to the police, the older brother of the suspect told the police that Thanakorn had been in a relationship with Waranya for three years. On the incident day at 2 AM, they both had a heated argument. The details were not disclosed to the public. At 5 AM, the suspect reportedly left the house before being spotted by a local.
Investigations uncovered Thanakorn’s history of psychiatric treatment for over a year and a criminal record from 2022 for allegedly committing an indecent act and physical violence on a minor under 15. That particular case is still in the process of being investigated.
The police have assured the public that Thanakorn will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They are currently interrogating the suspect’s and victim’s relatives for more information and are searching for the victim’s missing wrists, which were cut off by the suspect.
