At 10:30 PM on June 6th, 2024, Muang Khon Kaen Provincial police officers received a report of a fatal shooting involving a 29-year-old Burmese worker who was shot while being admitted to Khon Kaen Hospital awaiting surgery.
Khon Kaen investigative police arrived at the hospital in Mueang Khon Kaen, where the scene was chaotic, with many patients and staff panicking. The suspect, described as between 30 and 35 years old, fled the hospital in a black pickup truck without a license plate.
The victim, publicly identified only as Mr. Kyaw, was waiting for a tumor surgery scheduled for June 7th. His Thai girlfriend, whose identity was withheld, told the police that she was unaware of the suspect’s motive. She mentioned that Kyaw had borrowed 12,000 baht from an acquaintance who worked at the same factory.
An unidentified nurse reported that the suspect had asked for permission to visit the victim before the shooting. The victim was shot once in the back of the head with a 9 mm caliber bullet while lying in his hospital bed.
The police are actively investigating this shocking incident, reviewing local CCTV footage to identify the suspect. They have issued a reward of 50,000 baht for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
