On June 7th, 2024, Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Depor, the deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, announced the successful results of a seven-month investigation targeting call center scammers and illegal gambling websites.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat credited Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the acting commissioner general of the Royal Thai Police, for their directive to the Thai Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) to intensify efforts against these illegal activities.
The extensive investigation, conducted from October 1st, 2023, to April 30th, 2024, led to the apprehension of 14,826 individuals. In collaboration with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), the TCSD also seized a large number of illegal signaling devices at the Thai border, which were being used for call center scams and other illicit operations.
Between November 1st, 2023, and April 30th, 2024, the authorities expanded their investigation, confiscating financial statements, mule accounts, and other assets valued at over 4.5 billion baht. These assets will be returned to the victims accordingly.
