On June 14th, 2024, Li police officers in Lamphun intercepted a massive drug smuggling operation, seizing over 12 million amphetamine pills. This bust marks the largest seizure in the northern region in a decade.
The operation unfolded at the Wang Din police checkpoint on Phahonyothin Road in Li, Lamphun. Officers detected two white pickup trucks with steel frames carrying bee boxes. The drivers, publicly identified only as Mr. Channarong, 37, and Mr. Sarawut, 49, were signaled to stop for inspection.
Upon police inspection, officers discovered that 120 bee hive boxes were filled with packages of amphetamine pills, totaling an estimated 12 million units. The sheer volume of the haul highlights the scale of the smuggling operation and the effectiveness of the police checkpoint.
The suspects were immediately detained and taken to Li police station for further legal proceedings. Their arrest is a significant step in disrupting the distribution of illegal drugs in the nation.
Thai Police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the drug smuggling network. The goal is to hold all responsible parties accountable for their crimes and to dismantle the network to prevent future smuggling operations.
