Thai Authorities Seize 200,000 Units of Illegal Veterinary Medicine Worth 84 Million Baht

National —

At 10:30 AM on June 18th, 2024, the Thai Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) and relevant agencies held a press conference to announce the seizure of over 200,000 units of illegal veterinary medicine valued at 84 million baht in Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon.

According to officials, the CPPD, in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), initiated their first raid on an illegal veterinary medicine distribution center in April, confiscating over 40,000 units.

Subsequent investigations led to further seizures of illegal and unregistered veterinary medicines from storage warehouses in Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon. These medicines were reportedly distributed to pet shops and online platforms.

Investigations revealed that a group of Chinese investors was behind the illegal distribution network. They exported the unregistered veterinary medicines from China and stored them in warehouses in Thailand, preparing them for further distribution. This operation generated a monthly income of over 300,000 baht for four months.

In total, 214,894 units of veterinary medicine were confiscated, valued at 84,841,200 baht.

Officials from the FDA emphasized that these unregistered medicines could be inefficient or potentially dangerous to animals if improperly dosed. They stressed the importance of consulting experts when using medicines on pets to ensure safety and efficacy.
