On June 21st, 2024, Mueang Chiang Rai police and relevant agencies seized nearly one million amphetamine pills hidden inside fruit boxes. This operation was prompted by a truck driver’s report of an unusually high transportation payment and other suspicious details.
The truck driver, publicly identified only as Mr. Kai, 47, alerted the police to inspect the fruit boxes he was tasked to deliver from Mueang Chiang Rai to the Thai Market in Khlong Luang, Pathum Thani. He reported that the transportation fee offered for the job was significantly higher than normal.
According to the police, the truck driver revealed that an unidentified individual hired him via a Line group to transport 2,000 kilograms of pineapples from Chiang Rai to Pathum Thani for 8,000 baht. Typically, the cost for such a delivery is only 6,500 baht.
Additionally, he noticed that some boxes were not properly covered with plastic sheets and had varying weights, which raised his suspicions and led him to contact the police.
Upon inspection, the police discovered that over 10 boxes were filled with almost one million amphetamine pills. The illicit substances were immediately confiscated as evidence. The authorities are now investigating to identify the person who arranged the delivery to Pathum Thani.
