On June 21st, 2024, Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradet Pimonsri, the Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, provided an update on the nationwide crackdown on illegal gambling related to Euro 2024.
The operation, conducted from June 14th – 20th, aimed to address illegal gambling activities both online and in on-site locations.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradet reported that the Center for Prevention and Suppression of Illegal Gambling had been established specifically for the duration of Euro 2024, from June 14th to July 14th. This initiative focuses on preventing and suppressing illegal betting on football match outcomes across various platforms.
During the operation, Thai authorities apprehended 1,578 individuals for participating in illegal on-site gambling activities and 248 individuals involved in online gambling across 62 websites. These online gambling websites reportedly generated over 1.4 billion baht in circulation.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Akradet emphasized that all forms of gambling are illegal and that those involved will face legal consequences. The public is encouraged to report any illegal gambling activities or other crimes by calling 191 or 1599, available 24/7.
