Chiang Mai —
At 10:00 AM, on June 28th, 2024, the Thai Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) held a press conference announcing the arrest of 13 Chinese and Burmese call center scammers at a pool villa in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai.
According to police officers involved in the arrest, the investigation into a Chinese scammer in southern Thailand led to the discovery of a connection to another foreign call center scam operation at Brick Box Pool Villa & Cafe in Doi Saket.
During the raid, the relevant agencies inspected the network and monitored the suspects’ activities. The villa, enclosed with fences and equipped with CCTV and lights turned on all night, housed over a dozen foreign individuals. The police gathered evidence and secured a search warrant from the Chiang Mai Court before executing the raid.
They discovered seven Chinese and six Burmese individuals and confiscated 94 mobile phones, 8 laptops, and other related call center equipment.
Interrogations revealed that the suspects allegedly gathered at the villa to deceive Chinese citizens into long-term investments and insurance renewals. The police reported that the group scammed more than 10 victims per day, generating over a million baht daily.
Initially, the suspects were charged with participating in transnational criminal organizations, forming secret societies, defrauding the public, and other related offenses. They were then escorted to CCIB for further legal proceedings.
The names of the suspects were not released to the Thai media.
