On July 11th, Thai Government spokesperson Chai Watcharong announced that Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin praised the Thai Paralympic team for securing quotas to participate in the 17th Paralympic Games in Paris, France from August 28th to September 8th, 2024.
According to the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports as of July 3rd, 2024, the Thai Paralympic team has secured 69 slots across 13 sports. There is still an opportunity to secure more slots until mid-July. Srettha expressed confidence in the Thai Paralympic athletes’ potential to perform excellently at PARIS 2024 PARALYMPIC GAMES.
The Thai Government spokesperson elaborated that the 69 paralympic athletes from Thailand will compete in archery (3 athletes), athletics and wheelchair racing (11 athletes), badminton (8 athletes), boccia (7 athletes), cycling (4 athletes), canoeing (2 athletes), rowing (2 athletes), wheelchair fencing (4 athletes), powerlifting (1 athlete), shooting (6 athletes), swimming (5 athletes), table tennis (12 athletes), and taekwondo (4 athletes).
The competition will feature 22 sports, with a total of 529 gold medals contested by 4,400 athletes from over 100 countries.
In the previous 16th Paralympic Games held in Tokyo, Japan, the Thai Paralympic team won a total of 18 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, and 8 bronze medals).
“Srettha commends the skills of all Thai Paralympic athletes and sends his best wishes to the athletes and related teams representing Thailand in this competition. He urges everyone to perform their best in each event and wishes them success in winning Paralympic medals, bringing pride to themselves and the nation,” said the Thai Government spokesperson.
