On July 14th, 2024, Khlong Tan police officers apprehended five foreign suspects for allegedly robbing a British cryptocurrency trader in Khlong Toei, Bangkok, using a taser.
According to the police, the suspects are Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed Saney Mohamed, a Danish national, Ms. Shafiq Sumya, a British national, Mr. Ahmed Saeed Yasin, a British national, Mr. Hussein Mohamed Hassan Sheekh, a British national, and an unidentified foreign woman.
Police seized two smartphones, an Audemars Piguet watch, a Rolex watch, an ADCD credit card, and 24,000 baht in cash, totaling assets worth 3 million baht.
The incident began on July 12th when the British victim, a crypto trader, attended a party at a residence in Khlong Toei with the suspects. The victim, whose name was withheld, was allegedly extorted, physically assaulted with a taser, and restrained with rope and tape.
The Thai police identified all suspects involved, leading to their arrest and the seizure of the victim’s assets.
The suspects denied the allegations and chose to testify in court. Initial investigations indicate this was the suspects’ first attempt at such a crime.
They have been handed over to Thai inquiry police for further legal proceedings on multiple felony charges.
