Mae Hong Son —
On July 15th, 2024, Mae Hong Son Governor Chucheep Phongchai addressed an incident involving a foreign tourist couple engaging in indecent behavior after tubing and consuming alcohol at a resort in Pai District.
Concerned about the negative impact on Pai’s tourism image, the governor announced immediate measures to regulate tourism activities. Local authorities and business operators will collaborate to establish stringent guidelines and enhance tourism management in Pai.
Following reports of inappropriate behavior by the foreign couple, officials visited Pai to enforce new regulations. The resort owner had previously filed a police report at Pai Police Station, documenting the incident, which occurred at 9:26 PM on July 14th.
In response, Pai District and Mae Hong Son Tourist Police have organized meetings with tourism operators to introduce new measures for tubing activities, including prohibiting alcohol, mandating life jackets, and ensuring post-activity safety checks.
Medical teams will be on standby for injuries, and tourists will be provided with appropriate attire and safe transport to their accommodations.
Efforts will also focus on educating tourists about respecting local culture and dressing appropriately. While most tourists comply with these guidelines, authorities will ensure stringent adherence by all parties involved.
