United States —
On July 14th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin commented on the recent incident that the FBI is now calling an attempted assassination involving the former U.S. President and Republican presumptive presidential candidate Donald Trump, who was apparently shot in his right ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13th (local time).
According to USA news sources, the Secret Service reported that the gunman was killed, one rally attendee died who was later identified as Corey Comparatore, a 50-year-old former smalltown fire chief who is being called a hero for diving onto his family to protect them from bullets, and two others were seriously injured. The FBi is now referring to it as an assassination attempt against Trump.
Trump had just begun his speech when gunshots rang out, and Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him. Reports indicate that Trump was discharged from the hospital after being treated for a gunshot graze to his right ear.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha expressed his sadness and shock at the news, emphasizing that such incidents should not happen anywhere. He acknowledged Pennsylvania’s significance as a Republican stronghold and wished Trump a speedy recovery.
Srettha also mentioned that the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not yet provided a formal report on the incident. He had been following updates from BBC and social media.
When asked about the rarity of such incidents, which have recently occurred in Japan as well, he reassured that Thailand’s security measures are sufficient and will remain in the hands of the nation’s security forces.
Here is the latest statement from the US FBI as of press time identifying the suspect, who was killed by police sharpshooters, and officially labeling the incident an assassination attempt.
