National —
On July 20th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department forecasted weather conditions from July 20-22, predicting heavy rainfall in some areas, especially in the eastern region.
From July 20-21, a monsoon trough will pass over the upper northern region, the upper northeastern region, upper Laos, and upper Vietnam. Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon will cover the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Meanwhile, southern and southeastern winds will cover the eastern region and the Gulf of Thailand.
These conditions will result in heavy rainfall in some parts of Thailand, with very heavy rain expected in certain areas of the eastern region from July 20-21.
Sea conditions will see waves expected to reach heights of around 2 meters in the upper part of the Andaman Sea and 1-2 meters in the lower part. Similarly, the Gulf of Thailand will experience waves ranging from 1-2 meters, with waves rising above 2 meters during thunderstorms.
On July 22, the monsoon trough will move over Laos and upper Vietnam into low pressure in southern China. Meanwhile, a moderate southwest monsoon will continue to cover the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
These changes will lead to reduced rainfall in Thailand; however, heavy rain will still occur in the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions on July 22.
Residents should be cautious of heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and water runoff, particularly in hilly areas, near waterways, and low-lying areas. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should proceed with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.
