Bangkok —
On July 25th, 2024, Thai immigration officers and relevant agencies provided an update on a case involving a Chinese-language billboard at Huai Khwang Intersection in Bangkok.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Xin Ling, a 33-year-old Chinese national, was involved and is on China’s most-wanted list for “Illegally trading ID cards”. He is the husband of Ms. Su Na, a 35-year-old Chinese national. Thai Immigration investigators have added him to their watchlist and temporarily revoked his residency.
On July 24th at 7:00 AM, Xin was found attempting to leave Thailand via Don Mueang Airport. However, he was detained by Thai authorities and was handed over to the Immigration Investigation Division for further processing.
Upon an initial investigation, the officers found that Xin’s phone records connected him to the phone number advertised on the Chinese-language billboard at Huai Khwang Intersection. Su reportedly admitted to using Xin’s phone to contact potential clients for passport services advertised on the billboard, but no clients had contacted her yet, according to the officers.
Initially, Su Na was charged with “Working without a legal work permit.” She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months in prison, fined 5,000 baht, with the prison term suspended for one year. She has been blacklisted from re-entering Thailand while Xin is currently being processed for deportation.
