Today (August 6th, 2024), Thai national media interviewed Wissanu Krea-ngam, an advisor to the Prime Minister, about the diplomats’ involvement. Wissanu stated that it is normal for diplomats to build relationships and gather information, and their interest does not constitute interference in internal affairs.

He shared that he had been invited for discussions by foreign diplomats, even after resigning from his position, and emphasized that such interactions are common and informal.

When asked if the government should be responsible for clarifying matters to the diplomats, Wissanu explained that while it’s a lower-level diplomatic activity, it is routine for diplomats to gather news and foster relationships through various means.

Regarding concerns that the dissolution of the MFP might affect Thailand’s image, especially its justice system and democracy, Wissanu dismissed any significant impact, stating that it would only relate to the specific case of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.
