Thai Police Civil Service Commission Upholds Dismissal of Police General Surachate Hakparn

National —

On August 6th, 2024, Thawatchai Thaikhiew, a member of the Police Civil Service Commission (PCSC) and its deputy spokesperson, posted on Facebook about the decision regarding the appeal of Pol. Gen. Surachate Hakparn, also known as “Big Joke”, who was previously suspended from duty.

The PCSC reviewed whether the dismissal order signed by Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet was lawful.

The PCSC convened to deliberate on the high-profile case and has sent the decision to both the appellant and the opposing party. Pol. Gen. Surachate had appealed against the National Police Office on April 18th, 2024, arguing it was unlawful and requesting its revocation along with other related appeals.

This case has garnered significant public interest and widespread media coverage with varying opinions on legal and factual matters.

After thorough investigation, which included hearing both parties and reviewing evidence, the PCSC concluded that the order followed legal procedures and used appropriate discretion. Thus, the order to suspend Pol. Gen. Surachate from his duty was deemed lawful.

The PCSC dismissed the appeal and the request for interim measures. Should Pol. Gen. Surachate disagree with the decision, he has the right to file a case with the Supreme Administrative Court within 90 days.
