Khon Kaen Zoo Celebrates Birth of Four African Lion Cubs, Special Activities Planned for Queen Mother’s Birthday

Khon Kaen —

On August 8th, 2024, Mrs. Thipawadee Kittikun, the Assistant Director of Khon Kaen Zoo, announced the birth of four African lion cubs on July 18th, marking the first time the zoo has welcomed lion cubs.

The four cubs were born to an 8-year-old female lion named Kanya, on loan from Ubon Ratchathani Zoo, and a 14-year-old male lion named Body, from Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo. The zoo’s veterinary team conducted health checks and determined that the litter includes two males and two females, all of whom are in excellent health.

The cubs have received deworming treatment and are being closely monitored by the zoo’s veterinarians. They are expected to be introduced to the public display area in about 60 days.

Currently, Khon Kaen Zoo is home to eight African lions, evenly split between males and females. In celebration of the Queen Mother’s birthday on August 12th, which coincides with a long holiday from August 10th to 12th, visitors can view the lion cubs via CCTV at the lion exhibit.

Additionally, Khon Kaen Zoo will host various activities, including blood donation drives, prize giveaways, and animal feeding events.
