Thai Authorities Seize 10 Million Meth Pills in Loei, Suspect Evades Arrest

Loei —

At 5:30 PM on August 10th, 2024, Thai Defense Minister Sutin Klungsang and relevant agencies announced the seizure of 10 million methamphetamine pills in Loei.

The operation began after officials received a tip-off about drug trafficking activities in the area. In response to the report, local authorities set up checkpoints and conducted surveillance along the Tha Li District–Chiang Khan District road.

In the early hours of August 9th, officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on the Phu Chang-Nam Khaem road. When signaled to stop, the suspect attempted to flee but lost control at a curve on the Kok Yai-Pak Yang road, abandoning the vehicle on foot in the dark, reported officers.

Upon inspection, officers found 23 sacks containing approximately 10 million meth pills, worth 500 million baht, along with the pickup truck. Meanwhile, the suspect reportedly was able to evade the police arrest by fleeing on foot into the jungle, according to the officers.

Sutin emphasized that this seizure aligns with the Thai government’s urgent three-month anti-drug campaign, which has led to multiple successful operations.

The seized drugs are believed to be linked to the same network involved in a 1-million methamphetamine pill bust in Pak Chom, Loei, last week. Thai authorities plan to further investigate using the evidence collected from this operation.
