National —
On August 12th of every year, Thailand is painted in blue as the nation comes together to celebrate two significant events, Thai Mother’s Day and the 92nd birthday of Her Royal Majesty Queen Sirikit.
This special day has been a national holiday since 1976, during the reign of His Royal Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great (Rama IX).
As always, streets and homes across the country are adorned with blue decorations, a colour deeply associated with the Queen. The vibrant displays symbolize the profound respect and love that the Thai people have for both their monarchy and their mothers.
This year’s celebrations are especially meaningful, as they fall on a Monday, giving families the entire day to honor the maternal figures in their lives.
Adding to the significance of the day, various cultural and community events are taking place nationwide. These include public ceremonies, almsgiving to monks, and special activities in schools and local communities. The celebrations not only honor mothers but also highlight the Queen Mother’s lifelong dedication to the welfare and development of the nation.
It’s also important to note that while there are no alcohol sales restrictions during this holiday, many government offices and banks, including Thai Immigration, are closed today. However, the extended weekend creates a more relaxed atmosphere, with many choosing to spend time with family and participate in community events.
As we celebrate this special day, the team at The Pattaya News and TPN Media extends our best wishes: Long live the Queen Mother, happy birthday, and happy Mother’s Day! May your celebrations be filled with joy, love, and togetherness.
