On August 16th, 2024, Mr. Wisit Limluecha, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, acknowledged that the private sector accepts Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Thailand’s 31st Prime Minister, citing her fresh perspective and the increasing global acceptance of younger leaders.
Wisit emphasized that while her youth is not a concern, the strength of her advisory team is crucial. Wisit noted that the swift appointment of a new prime minister benefits Thailand’s continuity and image, and expects the government formation process to proceed smoothly, with no significant changes in the coalition.
He also expressed confidence in the new leader’s ability to steer the economy in the latter half of the year, despite her young age, noting that her background in a politically active family provides a solid foundation.
Regarding the 10,000-baht digital wallet initiative, Wisit advised against worrying if it does not go forward, as other financial measures could still stimulate the economy.
He sees this leadership transition as a generational shift, bringing new ideas and approaches, and emphasized the importance of political stability amid external challenges.
