On August 20th, 2024, Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachuap Wongsuk, the Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, and relevant agencies, presented awards and certificates to citizens who captured significant traffic violations and road accidents on their dashcams for the month of June 2024.
The award ceremony recognized ten individuals for their contributions, with the top prize being 20,000 baht and a total of 50,000 baht in rewards sponsored by a private insurance company. Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachuap emphasized the importance of public participation in road safety through the “Traffic Eye Volunteer” initiative, which has seen increased public involvement in submitting videos of traffic violations.
These submissions are crucial in addressing traffic issues and enhancing road safety. The police will investigate and prosecute offenders based on these videos. The program aims to encourage safer driving behavior and reduce incidents of reckless driving.
Citizens interested in participating can submit road footage through various channels, including the Traffic Eye Volunteer page, the Highway Police page, and the Traffic Police page. Selected footage earns cash rewards and certificates of recognition for contributing to public safety every month.
Additionally, the Royal Thai Police expressed concern over the rising number of accidents caused by drivers using phones while driving. They urged drivers to use hands-free devices or stop in a safe area before using their phones to prevent accidents.
