Update: Three Workers Bodies Recovered from Thai-Chinese Rail Tunnel After 126-Hour Operation

On August 30th, 2024, Mr. Ekkarat Sriarayanphong, the Chief of the Governor’s Office of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), provided an update on the rescue of three workers trapped inside a tunnel in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The first deceased worker’s body was reportedly recovered on August 29th at 11:00 AM with cooperative efforts from the SRT rescue team and the Hunan Sunshine Rescue Team from China.

As of 6:00 AM on August 30th, Thai national media reported that rescuers discovered two more bodies, publicly identified as Hu Xiang Min, a Chinese supervisor, and Dong Xin Lin, a Chinese excavator operator.

The SRT expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and thanked all involved rescue teams for their efforts.

The collapse occurred on August 24th at the Khlong Phai railway tunnel, part of the Thai-Chinese high-speed rail project in Nakhon Ratchasima. The rescue operation faced significant challenges, including continuous landslides and rock layers, which extended the operation to 126 hours.
