On September 1st, 2024, Thailand’s Paralympic athletes in wheelchair racing won their first gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
Pongsakorn Paeyo successfully defended his title in the men’s 400-meter T53 wheelchair racing, finishing first with a time of 46.77 seconds. Canada and the United States took second and third places, respectively.
Athiwat Paeng-nuea earned a silver medal in the men’s 400-meter T54 wheelchair racing, clocking in at 44.67 seconds.
In boccia, Worawut Saengampa secured Thailand’s second gold medal in the BC2 individual class by defeating Indonesia’s Bintang Herlanga 6-1 in the final.
In badminton, the women’s doubles team, Sujirat Pookkham and Amnouy Wetwithan, won bronze by beating Switzerland’s Cynthia Mathez and Ilaria Renggli 22-20, 27-25.
Thailand’s Paralympic team now has 2 golds, 3 silvers, and 5 bronzes, ranking 20th overall.
