National

At 8:50 AM on September 3rd, 2024, Acting Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, standing in for the Prime Minister, stated that the Cabinet list, prepared by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, is ready and will be submitted according to the formal process, expected to be completed within this week.

Regarding the government’s policy statement to the parliament, previously mentioned to be no later than September 15th, Phumtham said that if all procedures go according to plan, there might be a delay of no more than three days.

He added that the policy content would largely remain the same as in the previous administration under former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, as the Pheu Thai Party still leads it.

The key policies from the election campaign will be pursued, though some details might be adjusted to align with current circumstances, with the primary focus on resolving the national economic crisis, according to Phumtham.

Phumtham also addressed the digital wallet scheme, urging the public to wait for the government’s policy statement to parliament for clarity on the matter.

When asked about the Bhumjaithai Party’s call for the government to pursue medical cannabis policies, as announced on August 2nd, Phumtham suggested waiting for the full policy statement but expressed confidence that there would be no issues or opposition to the plan to regulate and fully legalize, vs. recriminalize, cannabis.
