On September 12th, 2024, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), outlined Thailand’s tourism strategy, supporting government policies with various events aimed at boosting tourism.
After initial talks with the new Minister of Tourism and Sports, Thapanee expressed confidence in collaborating closely to enhance both tourism and sports sectors, with a focus on hosting key events like the “Charming Thailand: 5 Regions,” “Thailand Winter Festival,” and the “Amazing Thailand, Mid-Autumn Night” in 2024, featuring Chinese ambassador Luo Yunxi. These events are expected to attract more Chinese tourists while also encouraging domestic travel.
Thapanee praised the Thai Prime Minister’s recent policy address, which emphasized tourism as one of the 10 urgent policies, building on the “Ignite Thailand” campaign. She highlighted the continuation of efforts to propel Thailand’s tourism sector through major international events and sports tourism, which will benefit both local and international markets.
Despite economic challenges, TAT remains focused on achieving its ambitious goal of 3 trillion baht in tourism revenue, with 2 trillion from international tourists and 1 trillion from domestic travelers. Thapanee is confident the country will attract at least 36.7 million foreign visitors this year.
Regarding the impact of northern floods, TAT is coordinating with local agencies to assess the situation. Once the floods recede, TAT plans to promote northern tourism through influencer campaigns and special promotions to show that key tourist sites remain open and unaffected.
