PRESS RELEASE:
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has reported that heavy rains will continue across northern, northeastern, and central Thailand, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, over the next 24 hours.
The eastern and southern regions will also experience significant rain, with flash floods and forest runoff posing risks, especially in foothill areas near waterways. The severe weather is linked to a strong low-pressure system, weakened by Tropical Depression Saola, and a strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
According to the TMD, Sea conditions remain hazardous, with waves reaching 2–3 meters in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand and exceeding 3 meters in areas impacted by thunderstorms. Fishermen are advised to exercise caution, while small boats are urged to stay ashore in these regions. The lower Gulf of Thailand will also see rough seas, with waves up to 2 meters high, particularly in areas impacted by thunderstorms.
Heavy rains are expected to persist through September 23, with the monsoon system weakening by the next day. While rainfall will reduce across the country from September 24 to 27, some areas may still experience heavy showers. Sea conditions are forecast to improve slightly, though waves of around 2 meters may still affect the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
Authorities are urging residents in affected regions to remain vigilant, as flash floods and runoff remain a concern.
