On September 20th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra assessed flood relief efforts with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and relevant agencies.
Paetongtarn extended her gratitude and encouragement to the teams working on the ground, especially in cleaning and rehabilitation operations. Military units and foundation workers have been key in the recovery efforts.
When asked about upcoming relief actions, officials highlighted the need for more essential utilities and continuous care for bedridden patients, who are struggling in temporary shelters due to limited medical supplies.
The initial focus will be on the most affected areas in Chiang Rai, Nong Khai, and Phayao provinces. Paetongtarn also addressed concerns about the potential impact of Typhoon Saola, asking for readiness across all regions.
Donated supplies are being distributed nationwide, including to southern provinces like Trang and Satun, which are beginning to face their own flood-related challenges.
Additionally, a representative from the Thai Jet Ski Association proposed constructing a flood prevention dam along the Mae Sai River to prevent future floods.
The RDAT Siam Nonthaburi Foundation also suggested the development of a national disaster response application to streamline operations, allowing teams to request and allocate aid more efficiently.
Paetongtarn emphasized the importance of improving disaster response technology and communications, urging quick and effective information dissemination to the public. She also invited feedback on how the government could better support relief efforts and address the needs of flood victims.
