On September 25th, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Chanruangthong, announced that Thailand has been ranked 7th globally in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI), out of 194 countries.
This marks a significant leap from 44th place in 2020, reflecting Thailand’s remarkable progress in enhancing its cybersecurity standards.
The GCI, published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), evaluates countries across five key areas: legal measures, technical capabilities, organizational policies, capacity development, and international cooperation.
Thailand scored 99.22 out of 100 and was classified in the Tier 1 “Role Modelling” group for cybersecurity.
Prasert emphasized the Thai government’s commitment to advancing the country’s digital capabilities under the “The Growth Engine of Thailand” policy. This includes enhancing digital security to strengthen the economy and society and investing in human capital.
The government has also established the National Cybersecurity Excellence Center (NCSEC) to focus on research, international collaboration, and knowledge sharing to combat rising cyber threats, remarked Prasert.
