Thailand Targets 40 Million Tourists with Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism Year 2025

National —

On October 7th, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra chaired a roundtable meeting between the Thai government and senior executives from global companies to boost Thailand’s tourism industry.

The meeting featured representatives from Grab, Agoda, Expedia, IHG, Marriott International, Trip.com Group, and Thai Airways.

Mr. Jirayu Huangsub, the adviser to the Prime Minister, stated that the Prime Minister presented the “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism Year 2025” campaign. The government aims for a 7.5% increase in tourism revenue, targeting 3.4 trillion baht and attracting 40 million international tourists, along with 205 million domestic trips.

The campaign will focus on three main initiatives:

  1. Thai Charms – Highlighting Thailand’s rich cultural experiences, including world-famous cuisine and traditional crafts.
  2. Hidden Gem Cities – Promoting lesser-known destinations to create new experiences for visitors and distribute tourism income across the country.
  3. 5 Must-Do in Thailand – A campaign centered around food, culture, shopping, exploring new destinations, and attending major festivals such as Loy Krathong and Songkran.

During the meeting, the executives proposed forming a Tourism Taskforce to work closely with the Thai government. This taskforce will focus on improving the traveler experience across all stages of their journey, from booking flights and accommodation to local transportation and safety.

According to Thai national media, they also aim to enhance tourism promotion for lesser-known destinations and support small businesses, such as local hotels and SMEs, using technology. Additionally, they discussed supporting Thailand’s efforts to host global mega-events and improve infrastructure to accommodate increased tourism.

Paetongtarn emphasized that the insights and recommendations from the meeting would help shape future collaborations, positioning Thailand as a leading global destination.
