On October 23, 2024, Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party and Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, Chusak Sirinil, along with party members, welcomed Chen Gang, Secretary of the Communist Party of Qinghai Province, China, during his visit to Thailand.
Chusak emphasized the close diplomatic relationship between Thailand and China, spanning over 50 years, with strong cultural and historical ties.
Notably, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has visited China 54 times, and President Xi Jinping presented her with China’s highest foreign honor, the Friendship Medal, in recognition of her efforts in fostering relations between the two nations.
Chusak also announced that Thailand would host the sacred Buddha relics, or the Buddha’s Tooth Relic, from Lingguang Temple in Beijing for 73 days from December 2024 to February 2025, marking two key events: His Royal Majesty the King Vajiralongkorn’s 72nd birthday and the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.
Both governments continue to prioritize the strategic partnership between the two nations, especially within the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework, which focuses on environmental and climate issues. Qinghai Province, as the source of the Mekong River, plays a significant role in these efforts.
Chen expressed his confidence that the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese relations would further strengthen bilateral ties. He also highlighted plans to deepen trade cooperation between Thailand and Qinghai Province and stressed the importance of ecological and climate cooperation under the Mekong-Lancang framework.
